Walk For Awareness

2006 NTSAD Family Fun Walks to benefit the National Tay-Sachs & Allied Disease Association New York Area (NTSAD). NTSAD is dedicated to the treatment and prevention of children's genetic diseases, many of which are fatal. The walks will help raise money to fund research, education and prevention and to increase awareness of Tay-Sachs and the allied diseases. Our families can't wait; they need your help now.

• NTSAD has been serving the community for more than 46 years. Today, NTSAD encompasses 42 allied genetic diseases, the majority of which are fatal in childhood.
• NTSAD New York Area focuses on support for Research, Education, and Prevention for this unique group of diseases that collectively affects approximately one in every 5,000 persons.
• NTSAD funded the research that brought about the discovery of the missing enzyme that causes Tay-Sachs disease, and the subsequent carrier screening that became the model for all genetic testing.
• NTSAD developed a worldwide carrier screening program that led to a significant decrease in the number of Tay-Sachs cases within a particular high-risk population. NTSAD now continues that work amongst other at-risk groups and within the healthcare profession.
• NTSAD funds an International Laboratory Quality Control Program for Tay-Sachs carrier screening.
• NTSAD receives no government funding. Their doors stay open thanks to the generosity of a circle of supporters-a circle that must widen to meet the growing demands to prevail against these devastating diseases.

With your help, NTSAD New York Area can continue to provide the support for research, education, and prevention that is needed until Tay-Sachs and all the allied diseases are gone.
